Tools

Tools is an arrangement of VHS tape clips and audio samples based on duration, intensity, pitch and timbre. An experimental montage structurally sequenced to produce a sense of visual and auditory flow setting aside typical composition or melodic principles.

Drawing from criticaltheory of hauntology and other ideas this audiovisual work explores notions of time and technological mediation by foregrounding the qualities of obsolescent and disregarded VHS and audio media. Assembled from visual and audible clips, these are pieces of information found in the gaps between recordings, degraded data caused by mechanical and digital processing.
